LEGACY
And my legacy to you is my song
My legacy to you is my song
Well it’s all I have to leave you when I’m gone
My legacy to you is my song
I’ve tried to do the best I can
And strived to be a better man
Perfection isn’t what I’ll ever be
So make the most of life on earth
Know your purpose, know your worth
Try to find the good in all you see
Chorus
How will you remember me?
A picture in a magazine?
A black and white image on a screen?
Or will it be a memory
In a fleeting reverie?
Speaking to you of the life I’ve seen
Chorus
My songs are stories of my life
The good, the bad, the joy the strife
Reflections of emotions flowing strong
I’ve always tried to get things right
And got it wrong more than I might
So all I have to leave you is my song
Chorus

When Vesta Tilly did a show
To France she told us lads to go
Vesta said “Boys just don’t sit here,
Go straight outside and volunteer”
The sergeant signed us one by one
For uniform, tin hat and gun
He said, “Lads when you get to France,
You can make the Kaiser dance”
With bullets and with shot and shell
We’ll give the huns such bloody hell
And when us lads arrive in France
We’ll surely make the Kaiser dance
The shells are blasting from our guns
Raining death on the bloody huns
With bayonets fixed and over the top
We are the boys they’ll never stop
Before we go we pray to god
That we don’t end beneath the sod
Then when we’ve sent the huns to hell
We’ll get comfort from the mad’mwaselles
And now that bloody war is done
I’m all that’s left, me pals are gone
We all were sure we’d go to France
And we would make the Kaiser dance.
I march for them on Remembrance Day
And for their souls I kneel and pray
Their bodies lay in the fields of France
As we tried to make the Kaiser dance.
And now my life draws to it’s end
Soon time to meet me pals again
Remember us when you have a chance.
The boys who made the Kaiser dance.
Remember us when you have a chance.
The boys who made the Kaiser dance.

Edwina

I'm in love with our new cleaner
And her name it is Edwina
From the first time that I seen her
I knew I was in love
I watched her polishing the floors
And clean the knobs on all the doors
She is the woman I adore
That's why I am in love
Oh Edwina oh Edwina
Can you tell from my demeanour
That I love you from the bottom of my heart
Oh Edwina oh Edwina
Even though you're just a cleaner
I love you even when we're far apart.
I'm in love with our new cleaner
And her name it is Edwina
From the first time that I seen her
I knew I was in love
Instrumental Verse
Oh Edwina oh Edwina
Can you tell from my demeanour
That I love you from the bottom of my heart
Oh Edwina oh Edwina
Even though you're just a cleaner
I love you even when we're far apart.
The years have quickly passed away
Edwina's gone and couldn't stay
My first love that I still adore
I know our love could never be
The reason is now clear to me
She was nearly thirty three
And I was only four
I'm still in love with our old cleaner
And her name it is Edwina
From the first time that I seen her
I knew I was in love
I watched her polishing the floors
And clean the knobs on all the doors
She was the woman I adored
Edwina I'm in love
I really couldn't ask for more
Edwina I'm in love

Hundredth Birthday
03:02
|
|||
I sit and reflect in my twilight years
Where has my time all gone?
There’s nothing left in life to do
But wait for the end to come
The end of my life it holds no fear
There’s no one left to shed a tear
My journey of life has moved me on
To a world where I don’t belong
My father was killed in world war one
Just before I was born
He never had the chance to see his son
Before his life was gone
I still feel cheated for what I never had
A man to look up to and call my dad
When we meet in heaven I’ll shake his hand
For the life that he gave to me
My friends are gone close family too
There’s no one left but me
No one sees me as man
Just living history
They just don’t think I have a brain
‘Cause my body doesn’t work and it’s racked with pain
All I need is to be blessed
With my eternal rest
I hold a message from the queen
For a hundred birthdays past
Of all the things I have done and seen
I hope this is my last
A hundred years upon the earth
Is not a gift it’s just a curse
The room grows dark the pain has gone
I’m back where I now belong

Pip, Squeak & Wilfred
03:02
|
|||
With me Pip Squeak and Wilfred polished on me chest
Ready for rememberance day I have to look me best
Marching with me comrades we all stand out from the rest
With our Pip Squeak and Wilfreds polished on our chest
The sergeant said get in the cart for you are Wipers bound
As we drew close the jerry guns made such a bleeding sound
Then a shell went whizzing over as we all dived for the ground
As I stood up I saw me pals a lying all around
Chorus
The patter of machine guns and the pounding of the shell
The mud, the blood and trenches, seemed to us we'd gone to hell
Death was all around I won't forget that bloody smell
When I get back to Blighty I'll have such a tale to tell
Chorus
A country fit for heroes well that's what the Generals said
How can you be a hero when you’re in the mud and dead?
Me mates have joined them up above, Edward, Bert and Fred
A pride of fighting lions who by donkeys were all lead.
Chorus
And now the years have gone we march along the avenue
They say we are the lucky ones because we made it through
Each year we're getting less and less, we really are the few
You wouldn't start another war if you knew what we knew
Chorus

Sacrifice 2018
04:01
|
|||
Dry those teardrops from your eyes,
He has made the greatest sacrifice.
He has made the greatest sacrifice.
You look on, that man is your son.
You should feel so good inside,
It’s an honour for your son to die,
Eternal life for your son.
You look on, you just look on.
Smile with your eyes,
Smile with your lips,
And you’ll find some comfort inside.
Instrumental verse.
He has paid the highest price,
For those that rule need sacrifice,
His life had only just begun,
He’s just one more Mother’s son.
We have never learned through time,
As we send our son’s up to the line
And when one hundred years are gone
Mother’s still will weep for their sons.
Dry those teardrops from your eyes,
He has made the greatest sacrifice.
He has made the greatest sacrifice.
You look on, you just look on
You look on, you just look on

Gossamer Wings
04:24
|
|||
On gossamer wings the fairy sings
And glides right over the meadow
With her hair of gold
And her clothes so bold
And her boots of shiny green leather
I saw the fairy in the woods
A bathing in the stream
Her beauty was so magical
I thought it was a dream
Then she turned and walked away
And beckoned me to come
I walked down to the waters edge
The stream had turned to stone
On gossamer wings the fairy sings
And glides right over the meadow
With her hair of gold
And her clothes so bold
And her boots of shiny green leather
I held the fairy in my arms
And asked her to be my wife
I will if you can pledge to me
Your body, soul and life
The answer that I gave to her
You can surely guess
Would I give her body, soul and life
I told the fairy Yes (yes)
On gossamer wings the fairy sings
And glides right over the meadow
With her hair of gold
And her clothes so bold
And her boots of shiny green leather
I looked into her dark brown eyes
And clearly could see my fate
This woman I was holding close
She was the devil incarnate
And as she kissed my willing lips
I felt my life drain away
I knew then by the stony stream
Forever I would stay
The next you’re out along this place
Look closely at the trees
In every trunk you’ll see a face
One belongs to me
The seasons come and the seasons go
The moons they wax and wane
The river ebbs and the river flows
But forever here I’ll remain
On gossamer wings the fairy sings
And glides right over the meadow
With her hair of gold
And her clothes so bold
And her boots of shiny green leather
On gossamer wings the fairy sings
And glides right over the meadow
With her hair of gold
And her clothes so bold
And her boots of shiny green leather

I'm Going to a Funeral
02:51
|
|||
I'm going to a funeral so please don't make me late,
A man is waiting for me just outside the pearly gates
He'll go through my life story and then decide my fate
Don't make me late,
Cause he can't wait,
I've gotta see a man outside the pearly gates
Only just a while ago I sat there feeling fine
And now I'm at a funeral I can't believe it's mine
So just reflect upon me as you sit there in your lines
Last week I was fine
Now this funeral is mine
Just reflect upon me cause it is my time
Instrumental Break
I’ll get to meet my granddad that I've never met before
I hope he will be waiting just behind that pearly door
With friends and my relations and oh so many more
So, open the door
I emplore
I want to meet my rellies that have gone before
I'll be looking down on you so you must not be sad
You better say good things about me please say nothing bad
It was so good to know you which makes me feel so glad
So don't be sad
Just be glad
Remembering the good times that we all had
And soon I will be bidding you my very last goodbye
So I can start my journey to my new home in the sky
I hope I get my angel wings so I can learn to fly
Say goodbye
Cause I must fly
I have to meet my maker in the sky
I'm going to a funeral so please don't make me late,
A man is waiting for me just outside the pearly gates
He'll go through my life story and then decide my fate
Don't make me late,
Cause he can't wait,
I've gotta see a man outside the pearly gates
Don't make me late,
Cause he can't wait,
I've gotta see a man outside the pearly gates

In the Evening
02:52
|
|||
In the evening,
The moon is peeping
And the stars come out to play,
And in the evening
You should be sleeping
For it is the end of the day.
In the blinking of an eyelid the day’s gone
And I don’t know if I should move along
In the blinking of an eyelid the day’s gone yes it’s gone
And I don’t know if I should move along
Or sing a song.
In the evening
The clouds are creeping
Making shapes across the skies
And in the evening
You should be sleeping
So you must close both of your eyes.
(Close your eyes)
In the blinking of an eyelid the day’s gone
And I don’t know if I should move along
In the blinking of an eyelid the day’s gone yes it’s gone
And I don’t know if I should move along
Or sing a song.
In the evening
You should be sleeping
For it is the end of the day

Go to sleep my little one,
The land of dreams is waiting for you
Little one, tonight
The night will soon be gone
And when it’s giving way to dawn
Then I’ll watch the sunrise
Open up your eyes again
Go to sleep my little one
The daylight’s nearly gone so sleep
My Little one, sleep tight
And when tomorrow’s near
I will still be here
And then I’ll watch the sun’s rays
Brush across your face again.
The day that’s nearly gone was filled
With laughter, tears and song
But now it’s time to rest your head and sleep
The daylight’s nearly past
And the moonlight shadows cast
Their arms around you safe your soul to keep
Go to sleep my little one,
The land of dreams is waiting for you
Little one, tonight
The night will soon be gone
And when it’s giving way to dawn
Then I’ll watch the sunrise
Open up your eyes again
